Monday, September 18, 2006 at 10:15:36 Do you really think the taxpayers will approve this? I sure hope not. ANSWER: The Board of Education and the Superintendent of Schools are obligated to provide an appropriate and effective education to the students of our community and to ensure it is delivered in a safe and comfortable environment. When little has been invested in our facilities for over 20 years, it would be a dereliction of duty to not inform the community of the deterioration that has occurred. The Phase 1 work which the community approved in March of 2005 primarily addressed issues such as accessibility that arose because of changes in laws and codes, not because of general maintenance. The current facilities Master Plan proposal was developed by a committe of over 45 concerned citizens, parents and staff members who investigated the current conditions of our facilities and the changes needed to ensure our students can compete and excel in the 21st century. Much time and effort was spent ensuring that the proposal was the most economical for our needs. We invite you to talk with forum members to understand how the plan was created. It is certainly our hope that the residents of the Hyde Park School District recognize the magnitude of the problems we all face, acknowledge that we have invested little in bringing our facilities in line with the evolving needs of our students and accept their responsibility in providing a 21st century education for our students. Friday, March 23, 2007 at 10:30:57 please send me or point me to the online file that breaks out the cost of the masteer plan. ANSWER: Thank you for your question about the Hyde Park Schools Master Facilities Plan. Currently the Board of Education is considering how the Master Facilities Plan will be implemented. As the specific costs will be affected by when aspects of the master plan are implemented, we do not have specific information at this time. When the board is ready to move ahead with all or part of the master plan, we will provide much more detailed information on the portion that we present to the community for a vote. As part of the Master Facilities Plan presentation to the Board of Education by the Facilities Steering Forum, architects from The Thomas Group, the architectural firm helping us with developing our facilities plan, estimated the cost at $182 million but this estimate was based on their professional judgment and expertise, not an itemized list. This estimate was also based on the assumption that the entire plan would be implemented as soon as possible. For more information about the Master Facilities Plan, we encourage you to review the adopted plan at www.hydeparkschools.org/Admin/Facilities/FacilitiesMasterPlan070111.pdf as well as the Facilities Steering Forum presentation and minutes at www.hydeparkschools.org/Admin/Facilities/facilities.shtml We also invite you to attend Facilities Steering Forum meetings which are usually held on the first Wednesday of each month at the HPCSD District Office. Please check the date on the district calendar or call 229-4005 for more information.
