Hyde Park Central School District

The Board of Education believes that cooperation between school and home is a vital ingredient to the growth and education of the whole child. It recognizes its responsibility to keep parents/guardians informed of student welfare and progress in school.

The Board directs the establishment of a system of reporting student progress which is consistent with the educational goals of the district and which includes written reports in grades kindergarten through twelfth. All staff members who are in a position requiring the reporting of student progress shall comply with the system as part of their teaching responsibilities. The Superintendent of Schools will continually review the reporting system to achieve a better understanding of just what aspects of learning are to be graded and how it is to be done most meaningfully.

The Superintendent, in conjunction with appropriate teachers, shall develop procedures for reporting student progress to parents which:

  1. shall be sent to the student's parents a minimum of four times a year. Copies of letters sent to parents/guardians relating to a particular situation or problem should be kept in pupil folders;
  2. utilize various means of reporting appropriate to grade level and curriculum content;
  3. take into account that the instructional program includes cognitive, psychomotor and affective learning; and
  4. ensure that both student and parent receive notice of a significant drop in performance and ample warning of a pending grade of failure or one that would adversely affect a student(s status.

Parents are urged to visit the school and confer with the Guidance Counselors and teachers. They are requested to arrange appointments with the teacher or Guidance Counselor in advance and through the school office.
