Dear Roosevelt Community,
As the cool weather begins to blow our way we start to think about the end of the first marking period and the start-up of winter sports. Please check the following for upcoming happenings and helpful hints:
Parent/Teacher Conferences
There will be two options for fall Parent/Teacher conferences. The first conference will be on Wednesday evening, November 28th at 7:00pm. Appointments may be made for the evening conferences beginning at 6:00pm in the cafeteria. The second conference opportunity will be on Friday, November 30th from 11:00am – 2:00pm. You may make an appointment for a Friday conference by calling the Roosevelt main office (229-4020, ext. 1208, 9:00am – 2:00pm) asking for Marie Gilman.
Alternate Plans for Home Access
An issue has come to our attention following one of our emergency evacuation drills.
When we evacuate students must leave the building immediately and are not allowed to
take time to gather their belongings. Due to this factor students could be asked to leave the building without their house key. Depending on the emergency they may not be able to reenter the building before being sent home. We would like to recommend you consider an emergency plan for your student so they will have access to your home or another location (possibly a neighbor) in the event they do not have their house key. Being prepared for an emergency is the best defense to helping things run smoothly.
Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA)
The HPCSD is addressing the MRSA issue with education and proactive sanitation procedures. We encourage all of our families to discuss the importance of routine hand washing and proper hygiene practices with their children. Our custodial staff has been instructed to take extra precaution with cleaning procedures. At this time we have no confirmed cases of MRSA at the high school. We will do our best to keep the school community informed at all times.
Eating dinner together
In a recent survey National Honor Society students were asked many questions about their lifestyles and choices. Out of all the factors surveyed the one topic that was most common with all National Honor Society students was they ate dinner with their families several nights a week. Just some food for thought!
PTSA News
The November PTSA info session/business meeting will host presenter Deborah Kravchuk who will speak about I – safe. I-safe is a national internet safety group that focuses on educating teachers, parents and students on the dangers of internet use. The meeting will begin at 7:00pm in the FDR library. The PTSA will also be sponsoring a book fair at Barnes and Noble Bookstore in Poughkeepsie all day on Friday, November 23rd. Watch your report card mailing for the book fair coupon/flyer!

Parents of students may take out an ad in the yearbook. The cost is $25.00 and you can find the yearbook ad form on the FDR webpage.
