Hyde Park Teachers' Association (HPTA) Scholarship:
offers 5 $1,000 scholarships in 4 categories:

  • Any FDR HS senior
  • Any FDR HS senior pursuing a career in education
  • Any HS senior who is the son/daughter of an HPTA member.
    This senior need not attend FDR HS
  • Any senior who is completing or has completed a BOCES certificate program. Students applying for this scholarhship must plan to attend either a college for a degree or a certificate program or an institute such as Lincoln Technical institute or The American Beauty Academy.

Hyde Park Music Parents Scholarship:  offer several awards and one scholarship to graduating seniors each year:

  • Three Performance Group Awards 
  • One Community Service Award

Hudson Valley USBC:  The Hudson Valley USBC is offering four scholarships for a minimum amount of $500 each.  Criteria:  candidates must be a member of a youth league certified in NYS, has currently bowled a minimum of 30 games and must also be in good standing for the current season.  An essay is required.  Applications are in the guidance office and the deadline is 4/1/08.

 

William E. Reynolds Scholarship Award: This scholarship is awarded to the student who has maintained a high level of academic standard and is an active member, in good standing, of a civic organization that is dedicated to serving the people of Hyde Park. The application deadline is April 30, 2008.

 

Dutchess County Retired Teachers Association:  is offering two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors in Dutchess County with the following qualifications:

1)  A scholastic average of at least 75%
2)  Acceptance by or evidence of application to a college for 2008-2009
3)  Intention to pursue a teaching career
4)  Be in need of funds but ineligible for significant federal or state aid

Applications are in the guidance office.  The deadline is March 31, 2008.

Stephanie D. Brown Memorial Scholarship:  This scholarship is available to a female Dutchess County high school graduate who intends to major in education and has a B or B+ grade point average.  The award amount varies $750 – $1,000.  Applications are on the above website address and the deadline is April 1, 2008.

Doherty-Package Pavement Company Scholarship:  A scholarship of $500 - $3,000 is being offered to students continuing their education beyond high school.  The eligibility requirements are:  parents or guardians must be employed by Package Pavement Company, Inc., Red Wing Properties, Inc., or Stormville Trucking, Inc. for at least five years; must demonstrate financial need and must be involved in volunteer activities or employed.  Applications are on the above website and the deadline is April 1, 2008.

Financial Planning Association Chapter of the Hudson Valley Scholarship:  One scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a graduating senior from a Dutchess County high school who wishes to pursue a career in the financial services industry at any accredited college university.  Applications are on the above website and the deadline is April 1, 2008.

Joseph H. & Mildred C. McManus Scholarship (4 year):  this scholarship from $1,000 - $3,000 is being awarded to a graduating senior in Dutchess County with a grade point average of at least a “B” or equivalent.  This scholarship is not necessarily intended for those with the greatest scholastic ability, but is intended for those who must apply themselves to prosper or who demonstrate financial need.  Applications are on the above website and the deadline is April 1, 2008.

Luigi & Elisa Panichi Memorial Scholarship:  A $500 - $2,000 scholarship is available to a graduating senior continuing their education in an accredited academic institution.  The criteria for this scholarship includes:  applicant’s parent/guardian must be an employee of the Panichi Hold corp. d/b/a/ Royal Carting Service Co. or Valley 82 Holding Corp d/b/a Welsh Sanitation Service; demonstrates financial need; involvement in volunteer activities or employment; and demonstrates ability to succeed in their chosen course of study.  Applications are on the above website and the deadline is April 1, 2008.

P.J. Ransley Memorial Scholarship:  A $1,000 scholarship is being offered to a graduating senior who plans to major in business.  The criteria is:  must be graduating from a Dutchess County high school; planning to major in business; ability to succeed in their chosen course of study; participation in sports (especially sailing, skiing and/or golf), other extracurricular activities and paid employment; demonstrates financial need.  Applications are on the above website and the deadline is April 1, 2008.

Marjorie A. Rifenburg Scholarship:  A scholarship up to $4,000 is being offered to provide assistance with college expenses to individuals of Native American descent.  Graduating seniors of Dutchess County high schools and students enrolled in Dutchess County colleges are eligible to apply.  The scholarship will be applied to tuition costs at an accredited college or university or grade school.  Some record of you Native American ancestry is required.   Applications are on the above website and the deadline is April 1, 2008.

Andy Vito/Harold Tompkins Scholarship:  A $500 scholarship is being offered to Dutchess County high school graduates who have played high school baseball.  Applications are on the above website and the deadline is April 1, 2008.

Nursing and Allied Health Careers Scholarship:  This scholarship is awarded to anyone who has proof of acceptance at an accredited college or university as a full- or part-time student in a nursing or allied health care curriculum.  Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (B).  Preference will be given to applicants who are St. Francis Hospital employees, St. Francis Hospital volunteers, or children of St. Francis Hospital employees.  Scholarships will range from $500 to $1,500.  Applications are in the guidance office and the deadline is April 18, 2008.

PLEASANT VALLEY ROTARY CLUB:  is offering a scholarship to a senior who resides in the Town of Pleasant Valley.  Applications are in the guidance office and the deadline is April 15, 2008.

The Kiwanis Club of Poughkeepsie is offering the John Heilman College Scholarship in the amount or $1,000.  The basis of the scholarship is participation in extra-curricular activities and community activities, as well as academic achievement and financial need.  Applications are in the guidance office – the deadline is April 11, 2008.

DUTCHESS COUNTY AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY, INC. is offering a scholarship to a high school student seeking a degree in agriculture, horticulture, human ecology or a related career.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  The deadline is May 12, 2008.

THE ALPHA ZETA CHAPTER OF DELTA KAPPA GAMMA is again offering a grant-in-aid to a graduating senior girl from a Dutchess County High School who plans a teaching career.  Last year two awards of $1,000 were presented to area seniors.  Applications are in the guidance office.  The deadline is April 8, 2008.

LEWIS GORDON NORRIE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:   is offering one $1000 scholarship to an outstanding 2008 high school graduate.  The minimum eligibility requirements of a candidate for this award are:  must reside within the area of Ward 1, District 1 and 6 of the Town of Hyde Park (this is the area west of Route 9G and north of South Cross Road, in the Town of Hyde Park), and plans to be a full-time student in 2008-2009 at any accredited college.  Applications are in the guidance office.  The deadline is March 31, 2008.

FDR PTSA Scholarship:  The PTSA is offering a scholarship to a graduating senior based upon academic record, extracurricular activities, community service and achievements and awards.  Applications are in the guidance office and the deadline is Friday, April 4, 2008.

ZETA PHI BETA SORORITY, INC. (Iota Pi Zeta Chapter): is offering a scholarship based upon academic achievement, leadership, community service, extra curricular activity, character, and financial need and will be awarded to a qualified female African-American graduating senior.  Applications are available in the guidance office and must be received by April 12, 2008.

The Brook Horton Memorial Scholarship for Theatre Arts: This Scholarship will have award value of $1,500.00 in 2008. This scholarship is for a graduating senior from FDR High School who is planning on pursuing further study in the theater arts/or theater technical work.
Applications can be found on the Dutchess County Community Foundation website: 
www.cfdcny.org.  The deadline is April 1, 2008.

Richard D. Pierce Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is given, through a fund set up by the Golden Age Singers, to a graduating senior of F. D Roosevelt High School, Hyde Park, who is planning on pursuing further study in music at an accredited college or university. Should complete and return application to the guidance office by May 7, 2008.

NEW YORK STATE ASSOCIATION OF AGRICULTURAL FAIRS AND NEW YORK STATE SHOWPEOPLE’S ASSOCIATION is offering six (6) $1000 scholarships to be awarded annually to any high school student and/or college student who intends to pursue or is pursuing higher education in agriculture or an agricultural-related field.  Applications must be downloaded from the NYSAAF website, www.nyfairs.org  and must be submitted to a fair member of the New York State Association of Agricultural Fairs Inc.  Handwritten applications will not be accepted.  Application deadline is April 12, 2008.

William J. Nichols Scholarship:  The Rotary Club of Hyde Park is offering the William J. Nichols Scholarship to a graduating senior from Roosevelt High School Students who have excelled academically and are planning to enter some aspect of the medical field may apply.  Applications are in the guidance office and the deadline is April 9, 2008.  Interviews for this scholarship will be held April 22, 2008.

The Paul Jensen Memorial Scholarship:  This $2,500 scholarship, payable over two semesters, will be awarded to a student who has excelled in design in his or her high school career.  The applicant must be pursuing this path in college.  An essay is required.  Applications are in the guidance office.  Applications must be postmarked no later than April 1, 2008.  This form is also available on the NYSIR web site, www.nysir.org .

 
The Cristin Ann Bambino Memorial Scholarship:  This $2,500 scholarship, payable over two semesters, will be awarded to a college-bound special education student who has worked through special challenges to complete high school and obtain acceptance to a college or university.  An essay is required.  Applications are in the guidance office.  Applications must be postmarked no later than April 1, 2008.  This form is also available on the NYSIR web site, www.nysir.org.

Manufacturing & Trade Scholarship:  The Poughkeepsie Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation is announcing a scholarship with a maximum of $2,000 per students who will be continuing their education in manufacturing or trade profession.  (Manufacturing or Trade examples are:  Print Production, Plumbing, Electrical, Welding, Auto Mechanics, Auto Body repair and/or to be defined by the Committee.)  An essay is required.  Applications are in the guidance office or may be downloaded from their website at www.cfdcny.org.  All applications must be postmarked by April 21, 2008.

 

Class of 2007 Class Award:  The Class of 2007 of FDR High School is offering two $500 scholarships for both a graduating male and female senior.  An essay of no more than 1500 words is required.  Please see the guidance office for more information and an application.  The deadline is April 10, 2008.

 

THE NEW YORK STATE ASSOCIATION OF TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERS - “ADOPT-AN-UNDERGRAD” SCHOLARSHIP: The New York State Association of Transportation Engineers is offering a scholarship to a high school student intent on studying civil engineering at a fully-accredited college or university.  This scholarship will be in the amount of $1000 annually for a maximum of four years of study provided that the applicant remains a full-time student in civil engineering at a fully accredited college or university and maintains an annual grade point average at or above 2.0.  Applications are in the guidance office and the deadline date is May 15, 2008.

  
William Greene Memorial Scholarship:  The Staatsburg Fire Department is offering the William Greene Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500.  This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who has been actively involved in their community through volunteerism.  Information for this scholarship is in the Guidance Office.  The deadline is
May 1, 2008.

 

The Herman B. Snow, M.D., Memorial Scholarship:  is sponsored by the Mid-Hudson Psychiatric Society, a non-profit professional organization.  They will be awarding three $500 scholarships for the year of 2008.  Scholarships are awarded by the committee to graduating high school seniors accepted for their first semester in college pursuing a career in the mental health: Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Social Worker or Psychiatric Nursing.  Students will be selected on the basis of a successful high school career which demonstrated academic achievement, participation in school and community affairs, responsibility, motivation and leadership.  Applications are in the guidance office and the deadline is May 12, 2008.

 

TWINKS SOCIAL & CIVIC CLUB SCHOLARSHIP:  The Poughkeepsie Chapter of TWINKS SOCIAL & CIVIC CLUB, Inc. is offering scholarships to African-American high school graduating seniors from Dutchess County.  The criteria includes:  student must have a GPA of 85 or better, community service, written essay and a personal interview.  Applications are in the guidance office.  The deadline is April 8, 2008.

First Pioneer Farm Credit:  is offering several $1,500 college scholarships.  To apply, an individual pursuing a post-high school education must demonstrate through their experience, academic program of study, extracurricular activities and career interest statement, significant progress toward a clean intention for a career in production agriculture, agribusiness, forestry or commercial fishing.  Applications are in the guidance office.  Applications must be received by
April 18, 2008.

 

The Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce is offering two $750 scholarships to a senior who is a full-time Hyde Park resident, has a minimum of a “B” average, will be attending a university/college in the fall of 2008 and majoring in Business or Agriculture.  An essay is required.  Applications are in the guidance office or can be accessed on the Chamber’s website www.hydeparkchamber.org.  The deadline is April 4, 2008.

Dutchess County Electrical Contractors’ Association Scholarship:  The Dutchess County Electrical Contractors Association is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior who is pursuing a career in the electrical field/or electrical trade.  The scholarship can be used by a student who plans to attend a technical or trade school, college or university, or a BOCES training program.   Essays are required.  Applications are in the guidance office or can be accessed at the DCECA website at www.dceca.com.   The deadline is April 15, 2008.

The Melissa D. Bisaccia Summer Camp Scholarship will provide a scholarship to a child age 5 to 18 who has been diagnosed with a seizure disorder, needs financial assistance to attend camp and who resides in Dutchess County.  Applications are in the guidance office or can be accessed at the Community Foundation of Dutchess County website: www.cfdcny.org.  This application can be found in the scholarship section under Miscellaneous Scholarships and Awards/Dutchess County Residents.  The deadline for submitting applications is May 15, 2008.

 

Hyde Park Lions Club Scholarship:  The Hyde Park Lions Club is offering a scholarship to a graduating senior who is planning to attend Dutchess Community College.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  The deadline for the application is Wednesday, April 30, 2008.  An interview with the applicant will be held in May (date – to be determined).

 

Jay Brands Memorial Scholarship:  Applications are available for the Jay Brands Memorial Scholarship in the guidance office.  This scholarship is available to a high school senior continuing his or her education at the collegiate level and has participated in sports and also involved with school activities, functions, clubs or organizations.  The deadline for the scholarship is April 18, 2008

The Paul A. Tegtmeier Memorial Scholarship: is being offered in memory of Paul A. Tegtmeier.  Paul was a 1978 graduate of FDR High School and an active volunteer Firefighter with the Roosevelt Fire Dept. for 23 years.  He was a professional Firefighter with The Fire Dept. of the City of New York and died in the line of duty as a result of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

This $1,000 scholarship is being offered to a senior who will be continuing onto college and who exemplifies Paul’s spirit by being an active member in good standing of a civic organization that is dedicated to serving the people of Hyde Park.  Applications are in the Guidance Office.  The deadline is April 30, 2008.

The Mid-Hudson CAMERATA CHORALE: is offering the 2006 Ted Greene Music Education Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to an area graduating senior committed to a college major in music or music education.  Applications are in the guidance office and the deadline is May 9, 2008.

The Douglas Secor Memorial Scholarship: is offering a $500 scholarship to a senior who has volunteered in any community organization in or around Hyde Park and will be continuing their education. Students should be able to display characteristics such as: cooperation, sensitivity, a willingness to help other, etc. Applications are in the guidance office and the deadline for turning in applications is Tuesday, April 22.

Charles .E & Mabel E. Conklin Scholarship for Academic Excellence: Dutchess Community College offers a scholarship for full tuition and fees if you rank in the top ten (10) percent of your graduating class through the first semester of your 12th grade. Applications are in the guidance office.

New York State Nurses’ Association Scholarship: The local chapter of the New York State Nurses’ Association, District 12 is offering a scholarship to a senior that is pursuing nursing as a career goal. Applications are in the guidance office. The deadline is June 1, 2008.

The Staatsburg Fire District and Anderson School Community Scholarship: is offering two (2) $500 scholarships to any graduating senior in the Hyde Park Central School District who is pursuing a higher education in the Human Services Field. Primary consideration will be to applicants pursing careers in fire and emergency services, life safety field, or public safety field. Secondary consideration will be given to applicants targeting careers in other Human Services field only if no primary applicants fully meet the selection criteria. Applications are in the guidance office – the deadline is April 30, 2008.

DOT Federal Credit Union Scholarship 2008: is offering a $1,000 scholarship for a 2008 graduating high school senior. To be eligible, students must be college-bound attending college for the first time in the fall of 2008, with a GPA of at least 3.0 or higher for grades 9-12 and a member of the DOT Federal Credit Union. Students currently not members and wish to apply may stop by the branch in the 44 Plaza, Poughkeepsie to open an account. Applicants will be judged based upon their academic achievements, extracurricular and community activities and the quality of a written essay. Applications are in the guidance office or are available online at www.dotfcu.org. Applications must be received on or before May 15, 2008.

The Friends of DARE Inc.: is a community organization dedicated to promoting drug and alcohol abuse prevention. They are offering a graduating senior an award of $500 who has exhibited outstanding moral conduct as well as peer leadership and good citizenship in the community. The applications are available in the guidance office and the deadline is May 5th. The award will be presented on Awards Night.

Eileen A. Kerins Scholarship: a $1,000 scholarship is being offered to financially assist a college-bound student interested in pursuing a degree in education. The eligibility requirements include: must be a former North Park Elementary student, have demonstrated capability for maintaining academic excellence, evidence of working with or supporting children in their learning and possess a strong work ethic and sense of integrity. Applications are in the guidance office and the deadline is May 20, 2008.

Dutchess County St. Patrick’s Parade Committee Scholarship: The D.C. St. Patrick’s Parade Committee is offering a $250 scholarship for a girl and a boy of Irish decent who will be attending college in the fall. Scholarships will be awarded for community involvement and academic achievement. Applications are in the Guidance Office. The deadline is May 16, 2008.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority (Mid-Hudson Valley Alumnae Chapter): offers scholarships to African American female high school seniors in the Mid-Hudson Valley area. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, community and school involvement. The minimum grade average is 85. Applications are in the guidance office and the deadline is May 15, 2008
