Activ8 Kids! - Eat Well Play Hard

Hyde Park Elementary enjoyed a healty lesson today in an outdoor assembly featuring bike riders and the "Eat Well Play Hard" message. The Eat Well Play Hard (EWPH) Program was developed to help prevent childhood obesity and reduce long-term risks for chronic disease by encouraging healthy eating and increased physical activity beginning at age two. Physical Education teacher Sue Hawkins coordinated the activity along with support from HPCSD Athletic Director Amy McArdle and Principal Ms. Blossom. "Activ8 Kids" comes from:

• increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables and low fat (1%) or fat-free dairy foods - at least 5 a day!
• increasing age-appropriate physical activity of at least 1 hour a day!
• limit TV / video game activity to 2 hours or less!

5 plus 1 plus 2 = 8!
