Yes! It’s that time again! The children of HPE will be reading books to race across America. For every book read or every 10 - 15 minutes read (depending on grade level) the children get to color a state on the U.S. map. When they reach California, they can start the journey all over again if they choose! This is a special year because it is the 10th Anniversary of Read Across America and The Cat in the Hat’s 50th Birthday. We will have a kick off rally on Friday March 2nd! Then the children are on their way! We will be reading at home and at school to try to reach the goal of 50 colored states in a month! Every child who reaches that goal will get a free book which is donated by our PTA! During the month we will have some special events to help us on our journey! We will have The HPE Read-a-thon - where the lower foyer is manned throughout the day with groups of readers! There will not be a time during the day that the area is vacant! We will also have a Beach Day! Children can dress in their beachiest best and celebrate reading. Another event will be The Cat in the Hat Day where we all wear red and white and read Cat in the Hat books! On Friday March 30th we will celebrate the end of Read Across America with a gathering of finished maps. The following week we will have readers who completed maps choose books and participate in some athletic challenges with the staff of our school! We are so excited about this event! Everyone…Get Ready…Get Set…Read! |
Thank you HPE PTA for our new picnic table!
