The Marist Women's Basketball Team came to read to some of the classes on May 7th-along with some retired NES teachers, Hyde Park School District Administrators and Board members. Thank you to all the wonderful guest readers!
Netherwood Elementary School teachers hosted the 3rd annual Mini Relay for Life on Saturday, May 3rd from 12 - 2 pm. In the past two years the staff has raised over $10,000 in support of the local Chapter of the American Cancer Society. This year's mini relay held at the school raised $1,350. The first 100 children who completed a mile around the walking track received a free t-shirt and certificate. Some of the other featured events included car seat checks, face painting, bike safety helmet checks, Watt's Italian Ice, Kids IDs and sand art. Every year many Netherwood teachers participate in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds. They anticipate to raise more funds for this great cause.

Netherwood Elementary School students experienced a live performance by a professional dance group on Thursday, April 10th. Students in the third grade also participated in a dance workshop with performers from the Buglisi Dance Theatre in association with the Kaatsbaan International Dance Center in Tivoli. Third graders performed with the Buglisi dance group to a packed gymnasium. Dance choreographer, Jacqulyn Buglisi and her dancers taught students the art of telling a story through movement. The first performance, titled "Rain," used movement and dance to evoke the many stages of a rainforest. Students were very enthusiastic as both participants and observers of performances by this cricitally acclaimed dance troupe.
