Hi,
Believe it or not it's time for our Spring Book Fair. The Book Fair will run March 8-13. It will also coordinate with PARP (parents as reading partners). March is about literacy at RRS and the joy and enrichment reading brings! More nformation will follow.

Family Fun Night was well attended and enjoyed by all. Fifth grade sold refreshments to raise money for their end of the year activities. They raised almost $300 dollars...nice job! Thanks to all the parents that baked and volunteered to make it such a success. Matt Wood from JETSET Entertainment kept us busy with fun games and great music. Thanks Matt!

I have had the pleasure of getting to know our new Principal, Mrs. Lawson, and she is a tremendous asset to RRS. Take the time to introduce yourself and say hello...but be patient she has a lot of names and faces to remember.

Thanks,
Kris Palmer, PTA President

PTA Council

From "Fast Facts" a NYS PTA publication

A PTA Council is a separately chartered PTA made up of at least three individual unit PTAs. Councils have their own bylaws and officers. Council members are the separate local units that have voted to become part of the council. A council can help the school community by acting as a coordinator of the local PTAs which remain autonomous. If your unit is a member of a PTA council, check the council bylaws to confirm the composition of the voting body of the council. Every member unit should have a copy of the council bylaws. At the very least the voting body of the council will be the officers and chairmen of the council, the local member unit presidents and a specified number of delegates from each local member unit.

SELECTING A DELEGATE

The council bylaws will indicate the number of council delegates allowed for each member unit. The local unit bylaws state how that delegate will be chosen at the local unit. Please check the unit bylaws to be sure you are properly selecting (or electing) your council delegate.

ALTERNATES If the council has provided for "alternates" for delegate representation, then the alternate must be selected (elected) in the same way as the delegate. It is recommended that councils do not provide for alternates but rather increase the number of allowed voting delegates to council. Other voting positions on PTA do not provide for alternates. In the event the council does want to provide for an alternate it should be clarified that the alternate and delegate do not each get a vote but rather, "delegate OR alternate get to vote." If you have a question about councils please see the NYS PTA Resource Guide, Section 4, or contact your region bylaws chairman or Trish Traycheff, State Bylaws Chairman, at bylaws@nyspta.org

Dear fifth grade families,

Although it seems a bit early to be talking about graduation…. we are. We are hoping to be able to compile a DVD for all of the fifth grade students when they graduate this year. In order to do this we will need your help. If you have any DIGITAL pictures of your fifth grade student during their years here at Ralph R. Smith school we would love to put them all together on a DVD. Please contact Heidi Colaizzo at phc0714@optonline.net with questions. If you are able to put your photos onto a disc it would make it easier for us to load them into a folder on the computer and then onto the DVD. You can send the disc to school and have it put into the PTA mailbox. We will need as many photos as we can get to be sure to include all of the students. Thank you in advance for helping out with this fun project.
