Beginning in seventh grade, students in the Hyde Park CSD may choose to study either Spanish or French. At the High School, many students choose to continue with this language study, while others take advantage of the additional options of American Sign Language and Latin to further expand their linguistic skills.
Upper level Spanish and French students annually write, produce, and perform a major theatrical production. In March 2006, for the first time, the play will feature an evening performance, open to the community, as the culminating event of National Foreign Language Month.
