Hyde Park Central School District

Social Studies Department

Social Studies Regents Link

The Social Studies Department at the Hyde Park CSD fulfills an important role in educating students about world, national, regional, and local history as well as government, economics, sociology and psychology. Hyde Park’s rich history as the home of FDR (link to FDR NARA site) helps connect the community and the social studies curriculum to provide students with authentic and meaningful experiences from kindergarten through twelfth grade.

Social Studies teachers in the District follow the NYS Standards in Social Studies (link to state web site for SS) in planning instruction. A rich program at the elementary level includes student participation in a variety of hands-on activities. In addition to preparing students for participation in a global society, students at the secondary level may select from an array of Advanced Placement, Dutchess Community College, and elective courses to pursue their specific interests in greater depth.
