The Alternate Education Program is for high school students who are considered potential dropouts. The purpose is to motivate these students to stay in school by offering them a curriculum that integrates academic subjects with a workoriented component. The program operates at Roosevelt and Dutchess BOCES sites.

In Hyde Park, we are proud to offer a full day kindergarten program in each elementary school. As the first public school experience, our kindergarten teachers create a warm and loving environment, with a focus on early literacy skills. Students participate in art, music, physical education and library classes in kindergarten.
English as a Second Language (ESL) services are provided at Violet Avenue at the kindergarten through 2 nd grade level and transportation is provided to Violet Avenue for ESL. 3 rd-5 th grade ESL services are provided at Netherwood Elementary for the students in that attendance area, and at North Park Elementary for all other students in the district requiring ESL services.
During the first week of school it is helpful if you (or the babysitter) stand in front of your house and wait with your child until he/she is picked up. It is also helpful if you wait out front for your child to be dropped off. This helps the bus drivers, as well as children, to identify the stops. Additional support for kindergarten students is provided for the first few weeks of school at arrival and dismissal times.
Pupils who are unable to attend school for an extended period of time due to illness or accident are eligible for limited home instruction by a teacher provided by the district. A doctor's statement is required for this service stating the child is unable to return to school.
Parents wishing to apply for such home instruction should secure the necessary information from the Principal's office or from the office of the Coordinator of Home Instruction, 229-4025.
